Melbourne Parks & gardens

Melbourne internationally acclaimed collection of nearly 480 hectares of Melbourne parks and gardens and most within easy walking distance of the central business district. Visitors coming to Melbourne will be surprised at the vast areas of green surrounding the Central Business District. As well as Melbourne's street scape, as its boulevards and many of its streets are tree lined.

Green Space North of the Yarra

There are many options North of the Yarra to choose from when visiting Melbourne. Whether it's the Fitzroy Gardens or Treasury Gardens on the eastly edge. Or the Carlton Gardens more on the north eastly edge of the CBD. Then there is Birrarung Marr on the North Bank of the Yarra, next to Federation Square. And as well, there is Flagstaff Gardens Melbourne's oldest Gardens near Victoria Market or 2kms further north of the CBD, Royal Park.

Things to do

Any visit to Melbourne that does not take in some of the parks is ignoring part of the lifestyle of Melbourne. Whether it be a stroll admiring the classic 19th century heritage features, a part Australia’s history in Cooks' Cottage at Fitzroy Gardens, Melbourne Zoo in Royal Park, the amazing street art like 39 electronic bells at Birrarung Marr, feel the roar of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix at Albert Park & Lake, listening to music at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl at Kings Domain, be amazed at the Royal Exhibition Building in the Carlton Gardens or simply relax under a shady tree.

Green Space South of the Yarra

Many options are also on the South of the Yarra River to choose from when visiting Melbourne. Whether it's the picturesque Royal Botanic Gardens, Queen Victoria Gardens or Kings Domain on the eastly edge or the Shrine of Remembrance Reserve with its impressive war memorial. Or the stately Alexandra Gardens close to the banks of the Yarra River, next to Federation Square. Then there is Fawkner Park named after Melbourne's co-founder John Pascoe Fawkner or further South of the CBD, Albert Park and lake.
