Australia is a huge country spread across thousands of miles from east to west. There are three time zones distributed across all the seven provinces and the capital territory – Australian Western Standard Time (AWST), Australian Central Standard Time (ACST) and Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

The AWST is followed in the entire territory of Western Australia, and clocks 8 hours ahead of the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), i.e. it follows a standard of UTC+08:00. So, if you are at Perth, make sure to adjust your time accordingly.

The ACST is followed across the provinces of Northern Territory and South Australia and clocks 9 and half hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), i.e. it follows a standard of UTC+09:30. If you go to Adelaide or Darwin, make adjustments in your time accordingly.

The AEST is followed across the eastern provinces of Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and The Australian Capital Territory, and clocks 10 hours ahead of the Coordinated Universal Time (UTC), i.e. it follows a standard of UTC+10:00. Major cities like Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, and Hobart follows this time zone.

Daylight Savings

Western Australia, Northern Territory, and Queensland follow their respective standard times all-round the year. However, South Australia, New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Capital Territory follow the Daylight Savings Time (DST).

The Daylight Savings Time starts on the first Sunday of October and ends on the first Sunday of April every year. During the Daylight Savings Time, South Australia follows a standard of UTC+10:30, whereas New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and the Capital Territory follows a standard of UTC+11:00.
